113th Annual Gold Medal Show at the Hilbert Museum

August 20 to October 26, 2024
Hilbert Museum of California Art at Chapman University, Orange, California

Since its 1909 inauguration, the California Art Club has been dedicated to promoting and supporting contemporary-traditional fine art through championing painting and sculpture featuring representational practices. The Annual Gold Medal Exhibition is the most vital platform for demonstrating the best of the realist genre. While participating artists employ time-honored fine art techniques, their featured works in this un-themed exhibition seek to innovate with modern messages that address societal issues from diversity to the environment.

For the 113th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition, we will return this summer to the newly expanded Hilbert Museum of California Art at Chapman University in Orange, California, with the exhibition unveiling in August.

In the meantime, the rich tradition of this highly anticipated exhibition can be explored through the exquisite works of paintings and sculptures juried into previous Gold Medal Exhibitions.

Hoosier Art Salon 100th Annual Exhibition
August 24, 2024 to October 20, 2024
Indiana State Museum

ARTISTS AND ART ENTHUSISTS, JOIN US IN THE CELEBRATION OF OUR 100TH ANNUAL EXHIBITION ANNIVERSARY!

100th Exhibit Preview Event – Thursday, August 22nd  6:00 – 10:00PM ET at the Indiana State Museum. Doors open at 5:30PM ET

100 years of tradition! Imagine what it would have been like to attend the first Hoosier Art Salon Annual Exhibition in Chicago in 1925.

Hundreds of people attended the reception before the exhibition opened.  All four living Hoosier Group members – T.C. Steel,  J. Ottis Adams, Otto Stark and William Forsythe – had works displayed, along with art from Charles Dahlgreen, Frank Dudley, Frederick Polley, J. Will Vawter and Clifton Wheeler.

Fast forward through many historic years, challenging events and progress, the Hoosier Art Salon is alive and well. Hoosier Group artists would be thrilled and awed by the excellence, diversity and groundbreaking art being produced in Indiana today.

100 years of history is a big responsibility!  With your help, participation and support we plan to keep the tradition alive for the next 100 years to come!

This year, 264 artists submitted 675 entries. The judges Jill Stefani Wagner and Qiang Huang accepted 143 works for the 100th Annual Hoosier Art Salon Exhibit.

Title: "Malibu on My Mind"

My 16x20 oil landscape painting, "Malibu on My Mind," captures the serene beauty of California's coastal landscape. Eucalyptus and sycamore trees sway amidst colorful hills, while a tranquil stream winds through the scene. Late-day lighting casts warm hues, illuminating impressionistic clouds in the blue sky. Light dances on the water's surface, highlighting the textured bark of a yellow sycamore. The painting's rich texture invites viewers to immerse themselves in the vibrant scenery, evoking a sense of peace and tranquility. "Malibu on My Mind" serves as a reminder of the captivating allure of Malibu's natural beauty and the enduring inspiration it holds for artists and admirers alike.

112th Annual Gold Medal Exhibit, California Art Club

As an artist, I am captivated by the timeless beauty and majesty of sailing ships. My oil painting of a sailing ship captures the grace and power of these magnificent vessels, as they glide across the open sea. Through the use of bold brushstrokes and vibrant colors, I sought to convey the sense of adventure and freedom that comes with sailing.

In this painting, I aimed to capture the movement and energy of the ship, as it cuts through the waves and navigates the elements. The play of light and shadow on the sails and hull creates a dynamic and evocative effect, while the deep blues and greens of the sea and sky create a sense of vastness and infinite possibility.

To me, this painting represents the spirit of exploration and discovery, as well as the deep connection between humans and the natural world. I hope that viewers of this painting will be transported to a place of peace and tranquility, and inspired to embrace their own sense of adventure and wonder.
