What Debra’s Students Say

Besides being an amazing artist, Debra is also a really fantastic instructor.
She is patient, very organized and explains things clearly
and at a pace everyone can understand.
During her painting demos, she takes her time to guide you step-by-step through her thought process before and after making each paint stroke on her canvas. Debra explains in detail how each one of her actions
moves her toward a beautiful painting.
She amazingly is able to paint standing to the side of her canvas facing the class (which is not an easy thing to do!)
so that all her students can see her every move

Most importantly, Debra is funny, relaxed and very entertaining.
It was a great workshop and I highly recommend it!
-John William Hauser

“ I was a bit apprehensive about taking my first painting class with my husband, especially with others who were so much more experienced.
Debra quickly put those thoughts to rest and I didn’t want to put my brushes down.
Plein Air painting has given me a new appreciation for our beautiful purple hued mountains and multi colored sunsets.
We look forward to honing our skills with more classes. So much fun!”

It’s the quality of the artist’s involvement in the subject and the amount of mind, heart, and soul one gets into the painting, that matters.

Working from photos, you can be a slave to details
and miss the opportunity to discover and create your own expression.

Direct observation, as in plein air painting,
submerges you in sensory experience
and invites you to become intimate with your subject.
